Muse Monday: Karen O.

Karen O.

This week's Muse is Yeah Yeah Yeah's frontwoman Karen O, real name Karen Lee Orzolek. When the Yeah Yeah Yeah's debut album 'Fever To Tell' came out, I had a serious obsession with the eccentric singer. I would try and mimic her absolutely insane style, wearing leopard leggings, neon t-shirts, lightning bolt earrings and, of course, high-top sneakers. Karen O. is mostly known as the singer from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but she's also done soundtrack work for the films Where The Wild Things Are, Jackass 2, House of Wax, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and I'm Not There. She's contributed to The Flaming Lips album Embryonic and collaborated with Har Mar Superstar. The Yeah Yeah Yeah's ability to constantly change their sound and yet still appeal to the same audience is what makes for a great band. Karen O's unexpected outfits and fantastic shows make her a truly iconic singer. Fifty years from now, there will still be kids listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's and watching Karen O's crazy performances.
