This week's Muse is one of the most legendary female singers of all time: Janis Joplin. Joplin's tragically short life was filled with wild and crazy times, and she definitely set the stage for 1960s fashion as well as creating a larger platform for female singers. Having performed at Woodstock, the Festival Express, Madison Square Garden and the Monterey Pop Festival as a solo singer and with the band Big Brother and the Holding Company gave Joplin a massive following. Her stage presence has been labeled "electric" and she has been dubbed multiple titles including "The Queen of Rock and Roll" and "The Queen of Psychedelic Soul." Joplin's tragic death in 1970 at 27 not only made her part of the "Forever 27 Club" but marked the end of the swingin' 60s era. Her death, in a way, immortalized her as the poster child for the hippie era and as a young wild child. There's no explanation necessary as to why Joplin is this week's Muse.
